Cestou jim dojde benzín, a tak si zastaví auto a vezmou si další dva rukojmí – reportéra Larryho Fleminga, který jede udělat reportáž o útěku z vězení, a tanečnici Dotti. Odjedou do opuštěného města v poušti, kde čekají na manžela Kay, který je doktor, aby ošetřil Barta, který byl na útěku postřelen. Sam Hurley vyhrožuje Kay, že všechny zabije, pokud její manžel nepřijede. Největší hrozbou je ale skutečnost, že opuštěné město stojí na jaderné střelnici, kde má být za několik hodin odpálena jaderná bomba.".
